About The Galas
The GALAS were set up in 2009 by the National Lesbian and Gay Federation to honour lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgendered people and organisations for their contributions to Irish society, both north and south of the border. The awards are also to honour politicians, employers and other people who are committed to advancing equality and social acceptance for LGBT Irish people in Ireland.
In
this, the second year of the GALAS, there will be 12 awards given to
people and organisations from Southern and Northern Ireland. The
longlist, created by public nominations will be given to 12 key LGBT
organisations across the country, who will be charged with the task
of shortlisting three final nominees.
The
awards are given to individuals and organisations who have made
contributions within the twelve months between August 1, 2009 and
July 31, 2010.
This
year there will be the addition of an International Activism Award,
made to an individual working on the frontlines of LGBT rights in
countries outside Ireland.
The
overall winner of the award will be chosen by the board of the
National Lesbian and Gay Federation.
The 2010 GALAS will
be presented at The Radisson Blu Hotel, Golden Lane, Dublin 2 on the
night of September 24. Tickets are €45 and can be purchased from Tickets.ie soon. Last year’s GALAS were heavily
attended so it is suggested that you book early to avoid
disappointment.
